Duration: 4 months with the potential to be expanded.
Weekly assignment: 40 hours Budget: EUR100K for 6 months (=100EUR per hour), which cannot be exceeded.
The goals and context of the project:
Identify and implement new cost-saving initiatives that will deliver linehaul gross savings of +0.5m€ in 2022. Initiatives that will be driven include:
- Improving the truck utilization: based on an initial assessment the truck utilisation is at 80%, which highlights an opportunity of 20%
- Improving the round-trip share: our transports are mainly one-way.
- Converting transport into round-trips represents an opportunity to save 10% of costs. This team will be focused on combining Outbound lanes with return lanes.
xdocking: The team will also validate whether there is an opportunity to move the sortation method at the OPSC from shipment level sortation to pallet level sortation (xdocking), which tends to be 30% cheaper, but requires pre-sortation at the FC. Underutilised direct lanes will also be included in the investigation.
Sortation at Zalando WHS: Another option to investigate includes the sortation at Zalando WHS such as Erfurt supported by inter-FC-transports in order to replace the flows going through the Zalando Operations Sort Center (OPSC). This option does not require pre-sortation at the FCs.
Milk-runs: for underutilised direct lanes, milk-runs will also be investigated. Sequencing of truck departures: The team will optimise the sequencing of truck departures to ensure that all trucks except the last truck of the day is always full.
The first week you´ll start with introduction and training, followed by 2 phases in the project environment, first there will be a focus on the low hanging fruits (easy to implement), the second phase will focus more on the bigger projects, with longer timelines (?4 months from idea to implementation).
