The app market is growing, and many businesses are struggling to keep up. How can jobseekers looking for app developer roles make use of the demand?
The mobile device has become a staple in the daily life of consumers everywhere, leading to a rising number of businesses creating apps to tap into this ripe audience of mobile devotees. The app market is thriving, and organisations need more IT professionals to help them boost their mobile compatibility.
As the availability of app developer roles increases, do you know what it takes to land a job in this burgeoning field?
The app market is booming, and will continue to do so
A forecast released by mobile app insights company App Annie has revealed that the market is growing at rapid pace. It is anticipated that this year the worldwide market will expand by 24 per cent to reach a gross revenue of US$51 billion, and by 2020 this revenue will have expanded to US$101 billion.
According to Gartner, the demand for apps is drastically surpassing the rate at which they can be developed. This means that companies are struggling to keep up with the app market boom, and many of them do not have the necessary expertise to start with.
"This is an indication of the nascent state of mobility in most organisations, with many organisations questioning how to start app development in terms of tools, vendors, architectures or platforms, let alone being able to scale up to releasing 100 apps or more," said Adrian Leow, principle research analyst at Gartner.
"Organisations increasingly find it difficult to be proactive against competitive pressures, which is resulting in their mobile apps becoming tactical, rather than strategic," he said. "We're seeing demand for mobile apps outstrip available development capacity, making quick creation of apps even more challenging."
